Congratulations on your decision to seek baptism. In the case of infant baptism, you as parents are: thanking God for His gift of life, making a decision to start your child on the journey of faith and asking for the Church’s support. For your child, baptism marks the start of a journey of faith, which involves turning away from all that is evil, turning towards Christ and becoming a member of the local and worldwide Christian family. Baptism is a ‘sacrament’ a visible sign of God’s love.

Why marry in church? Many brides dream of a church wedding. The service, the building, the minister and the music all add to the sense of occasion, but they shouldn’t be the main reason for choosing a Christian ceremony. Marriage, the Bible tells us, is a gift of God in creation and a means of his grace. It is a holy mystery in which man and woman become one flesh. It also reminds us of the intended love relationship between Christ and his Church. The Marriage Service reflects this. It allows you to make solemn promises in front of family and friends, but also in the sight of God and with his blessing. Even if you aren’t regular churchgoers, your minister will encourage you to think more deeply about the spiritual aspects of your wedding.

Confirmation is the rite at which those who have been baptised seek the blessing of the Holy Spirit for their growth as Christians. The confirmation candidates first confirm the promises of their baptism. Then the bishop lays hands on them, praying that God’s Spirit will confirm, strengthen and guide them to live out their faith in their everyday lives.
